Abandoned

I was walking home from work this evening, and I walk underneath a highway. There was a box lying there on the curbside, and as I walked past it, it started to meow. Of course, there was no way I could just leave it there, its a suprisinly hot day today here in Portland, besides, it just didn't feel like the right thing to do.

So I picked up the box and brought it home. Of course this was purely impulsive, based on my reaction, that I couldn't leave the kitty there. I hadn't thought much of it through. I knew I couldn't keep it in the house, as I have 2 cats, and until this fella has been to the vets, I don't want to risk it. So he/she is out on the balcony, with some food water, and a cat carrier, should it choose to sleep.

Its a hot day, so I think it should be OK there this evening, but I am a little concerned. Of course the animal shelter for my area is only open from 10 till 6, so I missed out on that for the day.

I just don't understand how people can do this, I feel so bad for the poor cat, but at least he has food and water for one night, I just don't know what will happen to it after today, but I can't take it in. I already as I say, have 2.

Once I got home, I also started to worry what the wbf would say about it. I don't feel like I had an option, but I wasn't sure what his opinion on the matter would be. Luckily, when I spoke to him on the phone, he was OK about it. We'll see what conversation we have when he gets home.

  1. I don't know about that, it was the only option to me.

  2. If it was your only option, then you have a big heart. :)

As you know, this is the same way I got into "cat collecting." Be careful because love can grow in you if you aren't careful!

(You are turning out to be as I had suspected at first.)

    :) :)

  3. Is it a good thing that I am as you suspected at first? What did you suspect?

Funny you should mention the cat collecting. Yesterday I was all for taking it to the shelter, today, however, I am unable to take it to a no-kill shelter, and I am not really a believer of the other kind. The only way I can get it into a no kill is if I foster him/her for a while, I am just really not sure I can do that. Oh well, I'll keep you up to date with my decision.

  4. I had initially suspected that you were a caring and loving person, of course. But you are teasing me, aren't you?

  5. Oh and here I find the suspicions on another post :)

I don't really think of myself that way, I know that I am not a mean person, but I don't think I am any different from anyone else. However, the more I see of the world, I see that there are some heartless uncaring people out there. I've been lucky though, as most of the people I have met have not been that way.

  6. Caroline, you're such a good person. i once had a cat and I had to give it to my parents after a couple of month. I just couldn't take care of it. I was working all day, and when I arrived home, she would destroy everything. She eventually ran away and never hear from her gain. :-(

  7. One of my cats (Henry) used to tear the place up, so I got him a buddy.

Have to say, I get a lot of my love for animals comes from my mum. She was always rescuing animals when I was growing up.

I was talking to her today, and she said I should move to a farm, so I can take care of all the lost souls I find. Would work for me, so long as I could have a goat. I love goats.
