Habits v's Goals.

I have been wearing glasses for the past 18 months, and just made the move to contacts.  In 18 months I have formed a habit of pushing my glasses back up my nose.  I am more aware of that right now, as I keep doing it without having any glasses to push up my nose.
Obviously it took less than 18 months to form the habit, but I am curious how long it will take to break it.

Supposedly it takes 21 days to form  a new habit/break a habit.  I wonder if this will follow suit.

With it coming up to the end of the year, New Years round the corner, I have one goal for 2013.  That goal is to make sure I give myself some work/life balance. I have spent the past 3 years working a crazy schedule, and put my personal life pretty much on hold.

Going forward I want to continue to work hard, but ensure that I leave some time for my own mental and physical health.  I have weight to lose and friends to see.   I really do have some amazing friends though.  They have been patient with me over the past few years, and have been flexible with their schedules, so that when I did have some down time we were able to get together.  Now its my turn to make sure I can do the same for them..

Regardless of new years resolutions, what things in your life are you looking to change?

Mornings

There is something to be said for what sleep can do, and the feeling a person gets when they wake up at the beginning of the morning.

There is always that moment of possibility. Of course sometimes it can last longer than others.
Last night it took me a long time to fall asleep, I had a lot of thoughts in my head. Finally I drifted off, then woke up this morning feeling calm and relaxed. The fact that I've only had 3 hours of sleep hasn't yet sunk in, and I am hoping I make it through the day before the inevitable wave of tiredness hits me.

My work schedule over the past couple of years has been insane. I worked an average work week of 70 hours, pretty much worked 7 days a week, put in a few 20+ hour days in the office, but no matter how stressed or tired I was, there was always, that moment, sometimes fleeting where I would wake up and feel calm. I have come to treasure those moments, and try my best to make them linger as long as possible.

Caromie is back in town,

I took a break from my blog for a while. Truth is I have been working quite a bit the past few months, and just didn't have much time to write. Seems things are quieting down a little now, and getting back to "normal". So here I am, back for a while at least.

Its not just that I haven't been writing, I haven't even been reading other peoples blogs much lately. The most I have been able to manage is the odd tweet every now and again. But at least that let people know I was still living.

Life is good at the moment, I still have a job, for now at least, my bf and I managed to patch things up and are getting along really well, we are not living together at the moment, and I am sure that helps. We both need a decent amount of space/time to ourselves. Living together we weren't able to find that balance. Of course, we can't go living in separate places forever, although we have spoken about it. Maybe we could buy two houses in the same street, or even next door to each other... it could be the secret to our success. Seriously though, we are taking things slowly and having a lot of fun.

2009, seems to be the year for weddings. I think we have heard about 5 in the past two months which take places over the next 12 months or so. 4 in the mid west, and 1 back in the UK. I haven't even been to a wedding since I was 16, and now 5 in a year... With some luck these weddings will give me something to write about. I mean every wedding has a story right..?

Put on a Happy Face

Although I've had a lot of great girl time the past week, I still feel like I am putting in a lot of effort into keeping a happy face.

I am generally a postive person, and also believe that there's a reason for everything. On top of that its not the first time I've been heart broken, so I know I'll bounce back. I just wish I could get there a little faster. I know its only been a week - patience is not a strength of mine.

I just want to be happy and having fun again. I don't like this sad feeling and I don't like the tears. I know I have to go through this, I just wish I knew what the point of this heart ache crap was. But I don't, nor am I ever likely to

So, in the meantime, you get to read my vents - and my apologies for that.

Good thing is, work is crazy busy this week, which is a great distraction, but my evenings are looking sort of empty until Friday. I need to get them filled up. Sitting at home trying to figure out what to do with myself, is not the way to go just yet.

Happy Days

I’ve seen a couple of people this week that I haven’t seen for a while, and they both commented on how happy I am looking at the moment. It got me to thinking about how different my life is there year compared to last year.

This time last year I was in a job I didn’t like, I was living in suburbia and I was engaged to a guy who drained every ounce of energy I had. I have to say the worst part of those three was the guy. We’d got engaged after only 8 months of dating, which is not something I ever thought of myself doing. To be honest, I felt a little pressured to say yes, I did compromise by giving us a relatively long engagement, however, if I hadn’t have broken things off I’d have been married for a month now.

I'll post later about the idiot boy, it may make an interesting read.

When I think back to last September, which is the month my life started to turnaround, it was a horrid month, but I think that sometimes it takes something bad, or painful to change things.

My life now better than I ever thought it could be. I am doing a job I am really good at, and I feel that I can make a difference, even if its just a small one. The team I work with are a lot of fun, and even though I have only been working with them for about a week, we are able to talk about things openly and get into some really great discussions.

I love my new apartment, and living downtown, although the weather has been quite horrid lately, I still get myself out of the apartment more and walking around downtown, than where I previously lived.

And then, there's the wbf. He makes my life seem so easy. I don't have to pick up after him, as he is very will house trainined, so the house is tidy most of the time. I can go home and talk about my day at work with him, and he does the same, but its not a tiring experience. We also love each other so much. Sickenly so at times, but it makes me happy. He makes me smile!

I just feel so darn lucky to be me right now :)

Crash(ing good time)

What with the new job and getting the apartment sorted out ready for the wbf’s father arriving this week, I really have been neglecting my blog.

I’ve actually been quite disconnected from the rest of the world the past week. For one thing my cell phone hardly works, the battery lasts for all of about 30 mins, I can’t access text messages or my phonebook. It’s quite pathetic. I am waiting on getting a blackberry through work, which should be here this week, then things will get better. I’ll even be able to write and post blog posts from it, so I’ll have no excuse.

As well as my phone not working, I haven’t really be logged in much from home the past week, I have no idea why, I just was busy doing other things I suppose. Its not that things were especially busy last week, but the new job really had me tired out.

The weekend was spent running errands and spending time with friends, so it was both productive and fun. Friday we had happy hour with some friends from work. We went a place that I am pretty sure I’ll not go to again. It was one of those places that likes to mix strange ingredients together, but it doesn’t really work. Instead of having Bloody Mary on the menu, they had Anemic Mary… made with celery juice rather than tomato… they had a vodka cocktail made with lavender… I am ok with trying new combinations, but these really didn’t taste good.

Saturday, we managed to get up at a decent time, went for breakfast then headed on to IKEA, we needed to buy a sofa bed/futon for our guest bedroom before his dad arrives. We found the one we were looking for, as well as a couple of things to help us out with storage. This Saturday was the Rose Festival in Portland, and we wanted to do our best to avoid the downtown craziness, so we then did a couple of other errands before going back home to take a nap and sort out our purchases.

We had plans to go out for dinner with our neighbour and his friend, we headed out to a place called the Kennedy School, it’s a really cool bar/restaurant. It is a school building which has been made into a hotel, restaurant and bar. The school itself shut down in 1975 due to the poor condition of the building and the cost to put it back into shape. I am not sure when the hotel opened, but it was a lot of fun walking around. Some of the classrooms are hotel rooms, others are bars, or function rooms. We ate dinner then headed back to our neighbours, for a couple more drinks. We always end up there until late, time just seems to disappear when we are with our neighbour. We had a blast though, I haven’t laughed so much in such a long time.

Sunday, didn’t really get off to a good start, we went to Goodwill to drop off some stuff, and as we pulled out of the parking space, the wbf and the guy in the space behind us pulled out at the same time, and the wbf’s car took the brunt of the damage. The tail-light is smashed, the bumper has a bump in it, and the trunk is now misaligned. Not much fun really…

The rest of the day was spent cleaning house, then we did our regular Sunday Soprano’s Session, we started season 2 yesterday. I am really getting into it, Tony’s mum really is a piece of work.

Our House - Finally

Well I've been gone a few days due to my move. I spent all day Friday packing, Saturday morning moving, Saturday and most of Sunday unpacking. I still have several boxes left to go.

It was fairly uneventful as far as moving goes. I did throw a bit of a wobbly on Saturday, and then another bigger one on Sunday, but I think it was just because of the stress of moving, and tiredness. Luckily my wbf understood, and didn't get upset with me.

Its challenging trying to find a home for everything, the apartment is a little smaller than where I moved from, but not by much. It will all have a home eventually. Most of the boxes that are left are pictures or books, so shouldn't take too long to get finished up.

The wbf, still has quite a bit of stuff to move in, and he has a room, pretty much, of his own, that he can do what he pleases with, although, he has had a few looks from me. I can't help it, I am quite picky, and a bit of a control freak, its hard to let someone do what they want sometimes. I am sure it will look great once he has all his stuff in it though, it will be a proper bachelor room :).

I really didn't do much this past weekend other than move, although we did go to his house for a grill and just to hang out with some friends. It was fun, we ended the night with a small jamming session in the basement, that was a lot of fun. Although Caroline was very tired, and ended up crashing in the wbf's rocking chair while he packed up some stuff and finished his beer.

The cats did quite well with the move too. Henry is normally the worst, he is such a softy. He went into the cat carrier without much fuss, which surprised me, and once we showed him his new home, he explored instead of hiding behind the washing machine for hours, which he did when I last moved. He did walk around the apartment growling though, its such a strange noise for a cat to make. Cleo of course has settled in without any problems. She is always happy, so long as she has a place to sleep and some food to eat.
