Lazy weekends, a thing of the past?

I don't know what it is about my weekends of late, but they seem to fly by so quickly.  Jam packed with all sorts of things, leaving little time for those lazy Saturdays or lazy Sundays.

This weekend was spent with my friends girls, meeting up with my cousin from the UK, who is over here visiting a gentleman fellow.  Catching up with my husband who I hadn't seen for a week.  Working on the house, shopping for the house, visiting with a friend, and goodness knows what else.

Now its a little after 5pm, and I am finally sitting down, with a cup of tea and pondering what the week is going to bring.  I should really check my work email, but I feel so content and happy that I don't want to spoil it.  It will all still be there tomorrow after all.

So, these days, although my weekends are full and busy, I can't help but notice, by the time Sunday evening comes around, I feel relaxed and content.   I don't feel the need to have a lazy day.

Now, I am making Shepard's pie, and will soon be sitting down to dinner.  Next on the list, its time for me to start reading up on my garden.  So many things out there, that I have no idea how to take care of, and I need to start soon, otherwise everything will be dead.

Frustrated

I didn't post anything this weekend as my laptop is acting up. It's going so slow, and most of the time won't even load the page I want. I am feeling very frustrated. Oh well...

My weekend was fun, had a get together with some friends on Saturday, so saturday morning was spent getting the house cleaned up. People started showing up at my place at about 6:30, and we hung out there for a while, before heading out into Portland. We did a mini pub-crawl, it was fun, but I drank a little too much.

I have this thing when I am drunk, and I get the urge to take either a bath or shower. It's a sure sign that I've had too much. Well, this saturday fit the bill. I get home, and while brushing my teeth I can't help but think about how nice a shower would be. So I take a drunken shower. I have no clue what causes this urge, but it happens.

Sunday, was very lazy, laid in bed most of the day, watched a couple of movies, and that was about it.

Unfortunately, with this being a Monday I am back at work, and being driven crazy by my slow and horrid laptop. I'd throw it out of the window except then I wouldn't even be able to pretend to do any work. I had one of the IT guys out to take a look at it, he changed a few settings, but of course that hasn't made much difference, other than now I can't even check my bank balance via online banking. Facebook won't function at all - much to my dismay, as I am a facebook addict. I am sure in the grand scheme of things, non of this really matters, but it does matter to me right now.
... and now I have just seen what my "quote of the day" is... how appropriate, even if it is from one of my least favourite people.

Peaches

Well I am back after a crazy weekend.

The craziness all really began on Saturday.

While on my way to breakfast, the ex-fiancĂ© decided to send me a couple of text messages, I am not sure when he will come to realize that my lack of response to him, is because I don’t want to stay in touch. He was texting me to see if I would be at the Brew Fest, which I was going to be, but I had no desire to respond to him. I love “delete”!.

After breakfast, Ryan and I had to go our separate ways, I was looking at my blackberry reading the post over at the pub, and wasn’t really watching where I was going. I ended up walking into the middle of a group of pigeons… I have a terrible bird phobia. I felt as if someone had shot me with some adrenaline, my heart was going boom boom boom boom boom. I then popped into the grocery store to get some sun-screen (it was a gorgeous day – I love summer). On my way out of the store, a homeless lady started to tell me her story. I didn’t really want to give her any money, but as I was right outside the store, I offered to buy her some food. I expected that she’d want a sandwich or something along those lines, but nope – she wanted a peach. So peaches I bought.

I then headed to meet my friends and make our way to the Brew Fest. We stopped by the Saturday market on the way, as the festival began later than we imagined. We were able to kill sometime before the drinking would begin. A couple of years ago my friend and I had volunteered at the festival, and we had lots of beer tokens left over. This pretty much meant, that once we paid the $5 for the mug, the rest was free. I normally don’t drink much beer as it has a tendency to make my allergies flare up… but not this day.

I started off with a blue frog, it was ever so tasty. I don’t really remember the names of much else that I drank, there was a surfers summer ale, and a raspberry wheat, but I have no idea what else. But we made our way through several beers, and I don’t think there was a bad one in the bunch. Needless to say, we got merry, rather quickly. The sun helped us out with that. At about 4 we left the beer fest and headed over to a friends house, finally we figured it was also time to get some food (yeah, I should know better by now). One of my friends took a turn, and got a little sick, so we let her take a rest, and chilled out till it was time to move on to see our friend playing at the bar.

Once at the bar, I played some pool, I ain’t played pool in a while, and really, I am not all that good anymore. I seem to remember me being good at it while I was at college, but maybe that is my memory playing tricks on me. I switched from drinking beer to baileys and coffee, it was so scrumy. I lasted till about 11, before Ryan and I got into a discussion which made me flip from happy to sad. (more alcohol fueled than anything else I think). Well, I decided it was best if I just went home, so I called a cab. I feel quite sorry for the cab driver, who had to listen to the drunken ramblings of my heart break for the journey to my house.

The rest of the evening involved me shouting at Ryan about stuff (alcohol fueled again), us sitting at the top of the stairs for goodness knows how long, talking and crying, then a little sleep. Yesterday, I was so tired, we did our normal Soprano’s fix, then went to bed.

It was for sure an eventful Saturday, most of it was fun, the rest just needed to happen – I feel much better after letting that stuff out. There’s other things that happened that I chosen not to write about, its already a long post.

Life

Well its Sunday, and almost the end of another week.

This past week has been a crazy one. First off with Ryan and I breaking up, and I've just been really busy - which has been a blessing. Tuesday night I went to Eddie Izzard, oh my gosh, he is just so funny. In case you don't know who Eddie Izzard is:

The above is a clip from a previous tour, but its one of my favourites.

Beside seeing Eddie this week (he made me laugh so hard by the way), I went to see Willy Wonka in the Park (which I already posted about), Friday it was a happy hour with some folks from work, and the first night that Ryan and I have been out at the same place since we broke up. We have many of the same friends, so its probably something that will happen more often.

It was actually remarkably ok, it was only awkward for the first couple of mins.

Last night it was girls night, we went to a place called Montage, its one of my favourite places to eat here in Portland. It's cajun food. The mac 'n' cheese is my favourite. They have what they called Spold Mac - its basically a combination of Spicy Mac and Old Mac (Old Mac being yesterdays mac), but it is so tastey. By the time the night was done, I had a good buzz on, and done more than my fair share of laughing. Its always good to get out with a group of girls.

I don't have the photo yet, but one thing I like about this place is the way they wrap your left overs. They make your left overs into foil creations. Mine was made into a swan last night, they also make flowers, snails, swords, trees, crabs, giraffes and goodness know's what else. As soon as my friend gets me the photo, i'll be a posting it. (the photo that is posted is not mine, I stole it from Helen Y)

Today, I'm going to be off to help one of my best friends pack, she'll be leaving the state soon, and although I am happy for the opportunity that's come her way, I am sad that she'll be leaving. She's a wonderful person, and I'll miss her very much.

(I was) Gone (for a while)

I was gone for a few days, and it wasn't just because I couldn't think of anything to post.

The past weekend was Memorial Weekend here in the states, so I was busy having a good time. I ate a lot and drank a lot over the course of the weekend, I actually ate some really good food. Ended up at an English Pub on Sunday (it wasn't quite the same as the Slap and Tickle), and played some darts. I haven't played darts in a long time, and it really showed. We then headed over to the pool hall and played a game of snooker, I wasn't all that great at that either, but I could remember the rules, and was able to guide the lads through the game.

The last couple of days at work I have been in a class called "Team Leader Facilitator Training". It was a great class, and even throughout the long days I stayed focused the whole time, which is really saying something, as I am very easily distracted. Now I am back at my desk, wrapping up my current job before beginning the new one on Monday.

I'm really looking forward to the end of the work day today, as I'm going out for dinner with 2 former colleges. One is my ex-boss, and she is just great, she's one of the nicest people I've ever met, the other is a guy who was a project manager on a project from a few years ago. About 4 years ago, we were all on the same project, and took a business trip to Germany and Barcelona. We had such a great time, eating, drinking and generally being merry and goofing around. I'd tell some of the stories, but I have found from experience, that they just don't seem as funny to anyone else as they do to us. I am sure tonight will be full of reminiscing and lots of laughs.

In the Palm of Your Hand

I was just over at British Speak and and I see that relax max has been giving me some link love, so I thought I should actually sit down and write something.

I finally got to have some fun last week, and that is the main reason nothing was posted on my blog.

It began with a "country fair" at work on thursday, this meant free beer, bull rides, tattoos, palm reading, popcorn, corn dogs, arts and crafts, and goodness knows what else. However, we had lots of sun begining on Thursday too, and my fair skin got very burnt, there wasn't really any shady spots for me to be hiding in.

As mentioned above there was a couple of palm readers at the fair. I've never had my palm read before, so I figured what the heck. She was spookily accurate, it began with her telling me "well I can see right away that you are a sensitive person, you care a lot about other people and their happiness and will put them before yourself". She then went on to say, that I live to be in love (so true!), that I am a bit of a rebel. It ended with her talking about my relationship with wbf, and she couldn't have been more spot on there either... like I said... spooky :)

I don't remember doing much Thursday evening... I think we watched a movie, yup we did - Two for the Money, it was rather good. The rest of the weekend consisted of drinking, dancing and more drinking. All in all not a bad weekend.

Yesterday a friend came over, and we started to watch the Soprano's. We are going to get together every sunday afternoon and watch them all. Until yesterday I'd never seen any of them, the wbf has seen them all, and needless to say, this was his idea. We watched the first 3 episodes last night... so far I like it.

A Hard Days Night

As you can probably tell from the lack of posts (other than doodle posts) lately, I have not really been around so much. Truth is, I have been working too hard. My normal mantra is “work hard, play harder” but lately its been pretty much just work, work and more work. I have my regular job, and then I have another role that I am doing as a “stretch assignment”, basically an opportunity for me to get some experience in a different area.

On top of that I am kicking off our company ally program part 2, coordinating our company booth for the upcoming Out and Equal Workplace Summit this September. I have a craft fair to attend tomorrow, where I’m going to exhibit some of my items. I recently moved so have spent the past 3 weekends, unpacking, cleaning and shopping. If I am not shopping for shoes, I generally don’t like shopping, so it gets classed as work too. As of this week however I am planning to get my life back on track!

I am really feeling the need to have some fun, as you know from Monday’s post I went out with friends on Friday, and that was fun. Last night it was a friend’s birthday, and we had a surprise birthday party for him. He turned 55, not that you’d believe it, he is still very young at heart. My favourite quote from the night was “oooh, I’m 55, I am slow, I go the same speed as a truck”.

I am not sure what it is at the moment, whether it’s the people I am partying with, or something I am giving off, but I seem to be getting invited to naked hot tub parties, and getting felt up much more than I have done since I graduated from university. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining , just curious as to why all of a sudden.

I get to have some fun again this evening as its Happy Hour day, my favourite day of the week, and I took Friday off work, to celebrate another friend’s birthday with her. Not sure what’s planned yet, but I plan to spend the night dancing my crazy dances at 80’s night.

Saturday Night

I didn’t get to post anything yesterday, as I was tired from the night before. The wbf and his housemates had a party on Saturday night. I headed over there in the early afternoon to help them get set up, although in the end I didn’t really do much, I just observed. It turned out to be a really fun night.

One of his housemates is in a band (the same band I went to see on Wednesday), so there was an all night jamming session going on in the basement. It was so much fun! They were great. Especially considering that most of them hadn’t met each other till that night, and certainly hadn’t played together before. I love going to parties at this house. There’s 4 guys living here including my wbf, and it is very much like a fraternity house. When there is a party here, there is such a wide range of people who show up, professionals, artists, musicians, models, unemployed, the 20 something’s and the 50 something’s. The conversations are interesting in so many ways, either because they are life stories, or just plain weird.

I was dancing away to the music, and my wbf comes over, seems we’d been invited to go to a hot tub at someone’s house… I looked at him, and said “hot tub”?, he said “yes”. I was confused, my thoughts ranged from a hot tub, is that a bar near here, or do they mean a proper hot tub. I don’t even know these people, what will I wear, I only have what I am wearing now… oh that’s the point, they don’t want me to wear anything… then I looked at my wbf, and said “erm, no thanks, not today! I am not really into people seeing my wobbly bits”. He just laughed, he knew what I’d say, but thought I’d get a kick out of it. I am quite a shy girl you know.
I went back to my dancing.

I then met a lovely couple outside, they’ve been married for 34 years, and are still very much in love. They were adorable.

It turned out to be a late night, I think we got to sleep about 5am, and typically, woke up at 9:30. The place was a mess, beer bottles, plates, glasses, food everywhere. However, with 4 people helping out, the clean up went pretty quick. The wbf and I then headed over to my place, and watched Manhatten, a Woody Allen movie. It was a nice lazy day.
